Isca Opiyo

Meet Isca Opiyo, a remarkable individual hailing from the charming Komuoso village within the vibrant Oyugis community. Our journey with Isca began in July of last year, when we extended our support to her. At that time, we provided her with four innovative garden towers, a venture she eagerly embarked upon.

Isca's management of these garden towers was nothing short of exemplary. She skillfully nurtured the vegetables, skillfully tending to them and, as she narrates, even selling some of the produce to meet her financial needs. Her dedication and success in this endeavor were truly commendable.

In November of the same year, we further enriched Isca's journey by entrusting her with four one-month-old chicks, comprising one rooster and three hens. Isca demonstrated exceptional care for these young fowls and achieved outstanding results in selling their eggs. It's noteworthy that, under her diligent watch, none of her precious chickens fell prey to predators.

As we ventured into the new year, we sought to reward families who had diligently cared for both their garden towers and the previously provided chickens. Isca, having met and exceeded all elimination criteria, rightfully earned six additional chickens. This collective effort among our families held the promise of transforming our lives, opening up possibilities such as establishing egg vending kiosks, a venture we successfully realized.

Isca's commitment to her new responsibilities extended beyond our initial meeting. She had already taken proactive steps by collecting the eggs and attempting to hatch them. Unfortunately, her endeavors were hampered by the unreliable power supply in her area, leading to an unfortunate setback.

Impact: Isca has 11 children, and is taking care of 8 additional orphans. Because of the Garden Towers and chickens (she now has 86!) she is able to take care of her family. Her goal is to save money and buy a dairy goat so that she can sell milk.
