You Can Help End Hunger in a Family's Lifetime
Around the world, millions of families aren't looking for a handout — they're looking for an opportunity. Too often, communities become trapped in a cycle of dependency, where temporary aid meets immediate needs but leaves the same challenges year after year.
Parents work hard to provide for their children, yet without reliable access to food, clean water, education, and sustainable income, it can feel impossible to move forward.
At 100 Humanitarians, we believe every family deserves the opportunity to become self-reliant. That's why we partner with local leaders to create lasting solutions that help families grow their own food, generate income, educate their children, and build a future where they no longer depend on outside assistance — but have the tools to thrive on their own.

The Problem
Millions of families aren't looking for a handout — they're looking for an opportunity. Too often, communities are trapped in a cycle of dependency, where temporary aid meets today's need but leaves the same challenges next year.

The Plan
We partner with local leaders in Kenya to build Garden Towers, protect clean water, and open doors to education and income — lasting solutions designed and led by the communities themselves.

The Outcome
Families become self-reliant — growing their own food, feeding their children year-round, generating income, and building a future where they thrive on their own long after outside help is gone.

You're the hero of this story. We're the guide — with a decade of local partnership, a proven plan, and a seat waiting for you.

Meet the Maasai
Meet Moses in the video — a voice from the community we walk alongside in Kenya.

Moses Masoi
Executive Director — 100 Humanitarians Kenya
For more than a decade, Moses Masoi has helped shape a model of community development rooted in the belief that lasting change comes from local leadership — not outside solutions.
Raised in the Maasai community near the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Moses understands both the beauty of his culture and the challenges many rural families face every day. His life has been dedicated to creating opportunities that allow communities to improve their own future while preserving the traditions that make them unique.
In 2015, Moses met Heidi Totten when she traveled to Kenya for the first time. What began as a conversation about helping a few families soon grew into a partnership that would become 100 Humanitarians. Together they envisioned an organization where Kenyan leaders would design, lead, and sustain every project.
Today, Moses serves as Executive Director of 100 Humanitarians Kenya, overseeing programs that have helped thousands of families gain access to sustainable food production, clean water, education, healthcare, and economic opportunity. Under his leadership, local teams have built more than 27,000 Garden Towers, protected natural springs, expanded women's health initiatives, launched sewing and skills centers, and developed the Emparnat Cultural Centre — a place where visitors from around the world experience authentic Maasai culture while directly supporting community development.
Known for his wisdom, humility, and steady leadership, Moses believes the greatest measure of success is not the number of projects completed, but the number of local leaders empowered to continue the work long after outside visitors return home.
He is passionate about creating sustainable communities where families have the opportunity to feed themselves, educate their children, build businesses, and preserve the traditions that define the Maasai people.
Off the stage, Moses is a devoted husband and proud girl dad to four daughters — and a lifelong, die-hard Manchester United fan.
Heidi Totten
Founder & Executive Director — 100 Humanitarians International
Heidi Totten never set out to start a nonprofit. In July 2015, after a life-changing first trip to Kenya, she felt a clear impression she couldn't ignore: "Go start a group on Facebook called 100 Humanitarians, and I'll let you know why." With no business plan and no fundraising experience, she simply said yes — and that act of faith became 100 Humanitarians International.
Since then, Heidi has dedicated her life to building sustainable communities across Kenya through locally led development — long-term solutions in food security, clean water, education, healthcare, and economic opportunity rather than short-term aid.
Under her leadership, 100 Humanitarians has helped establish more than 27,000 Garden Towers, protected natural springs and expanded clean water access, supported thousands of girls through women's health initiatives, developed sewing and skills training centers, funded education programs, and welcomed hundreds of volunteers to Kenya through immersive cultural expeditions.
In partnership with Kenyan Executive Director Moses Masoi and an extraordinary local team, Heidi helped develop the Emparnat Cultural Centre near the Maasai Mara — a place where visitors experience authentic Maasai culture while directly supporting community development.
She is also the author of My Maasai Name Is Nemparnat, a memoir about the unexpected journey that began with one trip to Kenya. Given the Maasai name Nemparnat, meaning "the gatherer," she has embraced bringing people together across cultures to create lasting change.
One of Heidi's greatest passions is helping people discover that humanitarian work isn't about "saving" others — it's about building genuine relationships, and that the greatest transformation often happens in the hearts of those who choose to serve.
Off the stage, Heidi is married to Dave and is the proud mother of two adult children, Joshua and Clara — who has traveled to Kenya alongside her ten times and counting.
