In the community of Oyugis, Kenya, protecting a local spring dramatically reduced cases of waterborne illnesses like cholera. Before the project, families relied on contaminated water sources, leading to frequent outbreaks of disease. By enclosing the spring and installing a protected outlet, clean water became accessible to the entire community. This improvement in water quality significantly lowered the risk of illness, especially among children. With better health, families now have more time and energy to focus on education, farming, and other opportunities, enhancing the overall well-being and resilience of the community.
